The TransferSummit conference venue is Keble College, which is in the centre of Oxford and easily accessible. Brief directions are provided in PDF format, along with a map of Keble College (note registration is to be held in Arco at 8am onwards (top right of map). Below are more detailed instructions for various modes of transport.
We also have an interactive map of Oxford showing some of the important places in Oxford.
If you have any problems or need more details mail us.
There are regular train services from all over the UK to Oxford. The railway station is a 15-20-minute walk from the venue and, naturally, taxis are available. See our map of Oxford for the location of the station and college.
We do not recommend driving into Oxford. Parking is very limited and expensive (especially long-term). There is an excellent park and ride bus service. The Pear Tree and Water Eaton sites both have buses that pass very close to the college, although all services will bring you to within a ten minute walk of Keble College (see our map of Oxford).
The best airport to fly into is London Heathrow. A joint second choice is London Gatwick or Birmingham International.
For those with good access to Eurostar stations you may want to consider the EuroStar [4]. I'm told the sleeper is a good way of saving money on hotels. However, I have never tried this so cannot personally recommend it.
London and Gatwick both have a regular coach service running from the airport to Oxford. The service has power and wifi and is extremely convenient. Fares are £25 return from Heathrow and £35 return from Gatwick.
The alternative is to get the shuttle train into London Paddington and then get a train out to Oxford. We do not recommend this unless you have a need to go via central London.
If you fly into Heathrow Terminal 5, the coach stop is number 11, which is immediately outside the terminal towards the centre of the terminal building.
For Heathrow Terminals 1-4 you need to follow the signs to "Central Bus Station". The coach leaves from stand 14a. Note, it takes about 15 minutes to walk from the terminals to the central bus station, which is worth bearing in mind for your return journey.
I'm afraid I don't recall where the bus departs from at Gatwick - you'll need to ask for assistance on the ground (please let us know where the bus leaves from so we can update this document).
You will be going to Gloucester Green Bus Station, which is marked on our map of Oxford. This is the final stop, so you can't miss it.
The bus station is a 10-15 minute walk to Keble College, or you can get a taxi from the rank marked on our map of Oxford.
If train timetables suit your flight, then travelling from Birmingham New Street to Oxford can be a little quicker than from the London airports (especially Gatwick). Flights can be considerably cheaper to some parts of the EU as well.
From Birmingham International you can catch a train direct to Oxford from within the airport complex. Check train timetables from Birmingham International to Oxford.
Naturally you will arrive at the train station in Oxford, which is marked on our map of Oxford.
