After his studies in communication science, Olaf A. Schulte joined a research team looking into the communicative structures of videoconferencing at the Universitaet of Essen in 2000. In 2002, he joined the E-Competence-Team there, counselling lecturers in E-Learning, especially synchronous communication and collaboration.

In 2005, he joined the NET – Network for Educational Technology at ETH Zurich as Head of the Media Centre, focussing on videoconferencing, teleteaching, and e-collaboration. In 2006, he took charge of the newly formed production and distribution group within ITS Multimedia Services, dealing with all aspects of academic video.

As of June 2009, he is also Product Manager for the Opencast Matterhorn Project.
